What is EMDR Therapy?

The acronym EMDR stands for “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.” EMDR therapy is typically applied to help patients process traumatic events that may have occurred, as well as to address phobias or improve performance in certain aspects of their lives.

Why is EMDR Therapy recommended?

EMDR therapy triggers desensitization, the reprocessing of traumatic memories, and the consequent disappearance of symptoms. Its benefits are endorsed by the World Health Organization and the International Clinical Guidelines for trauma treatment. It is supported by sufficient scientific evidence proving its effectiveness.

When should you opt for EMDR Therapy?

EMDR is a treatment that offers lasting results in patients with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other disorders associated with the trauma spectrum (whether it is severe or mild trauma).

What is an EMDR session like?

The EMDR therapy begins with an assessment together with the patient to determine the nature of the trauma and establish guidelines for its approach. From that moment on, sufficient tools will be provided for the patient’s stabilization, followed by the desensitization of traumatic memories. In this phase, bilateral stimulation of the hemispheres will be performed, which can be visual, tactile, or auditory.
